Up! Up! And away…

March 9th at 9pm I will fly out and the mission will begin. As a case study for finishing my diploma at FAUP (Porto Architectural School), I've decided to volunteer and join A4A (Architects for Aid) in one of their humanitarian architecture projects. The projected on which I've been assigned is the construction of the LCCU (Lesotho Children Counseling Unit) centre in Lesotho. The building has been halted and an assessment, survey and new proposal and program will be drawn up in order that the building might finish to be built. Once this is completed a second trip will be organized and I'll be overseeing the building on site. The objective of this blog is to keep record of the work that is being done, both for the benefit of the members of A4A in London, FAUP to whom I'll also be reporting, my own record as well as friends and family that might want to know what I'm up to. Please comment on any post that you have an opinion, as this will undoubtedly help me in the completion of my thesis. Bye bye

Lesotho and the LCCU are now far... More than a day has passed since I last saw the building, and I wonder, how long will it take to finish? And what will it finally look like? Will the children like? And will it serve their needs?

I know that I have left it in good hands but still I would have liked to see it finished… I know I will someday and I hope it will make the difference we all hoped.

Thank you guys for all the work you put into this (on site, in the office, and everywhere), and thanks for all the good times! Lesotho, and this building for Sentebale/LCCU is an experience that I will always keep close to my heart.

I write this “final” post only now because as I arrived yesterday morning in Paris I discovered my grandmother had passed that same night. So I am now in Lisbon... Goodbye Avó! Although I am not a great believer, and I suspect that you were not much better, you are now closer to Avô, where ever that may be.

Pedro,
Thanks so much for your blog and the time you spent making LCCU a better place. So sorry to hear about your grandmother. I will be praying for you.
God bless,
